On May 5th, Timothy A.M. Fraser and numerous other members of the Massachusetts Black Lawyers Association gathered at the Intercontinental Hotel in Boston to celebrate the organization’s 50th Anniversary. Dain Torpy was among the proud sponsors of the event. Attendees included many of the MBLA’s Founding Members, who were honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards, while the organization reaffirmed its commitment to upholding the legacy of Black excellence in the legal profession. The MBLA’s ongoing efforts include advocating for equality, equity, justice, and improved representation within the judicial system.

Joseph Feaster awarded through Get Konnected! as one of Boston’s most influential men of color
Joseph Feaster, Of Counsel at Dain Torpy, President of Feaster Enterprises, and Chairman of Boston’s Reparations Task Force, was awarded through Get Konnected! as one of Boston’s most influential men of color.
Joseph Feaster has established himself during his more than 47-year legal career, developing an expertise in numerous areas of law such as: zoning, real estate, licensing, corporate, litigation, employment and labor law, and probate.
Feaster’s professional affiliations are numerous, as his expertise is sought within the City of Boston and nationally. He previously served as the court-appointed Receiver for Roxbury Comprehensive Community Health Center for 5 years, as the Interim Town Manager of the Town of Stoughton, as President of the Massachusetts Community and Banking Council (MCBC), Acting Director of Real Estate for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority, Interim Administrator of the Boston Housing Authority (one of the largest public housing authorities in the country), Assistant Secretary and General Counsel in the Commonwealth’s Executive Office of Administration and Finance, Associate Counsel in Prudential Insurance Company’s Northeast Home Office, and as an attorney at the National Labor Relations Board’s Boston Regional Office.

Charles Le Ray Elected to The Abstract Club
Dain, Torpy, Le Ray, Wiest & Garner is excited to announce that one of the firm’s co-founding partners, Charles Le Ray, has been elected a member of The Abstract Club.
Founded over 150 years ago, The Abstract Club comprises lawyers who are considered leaders in the field of real estate law. Membership is limited to 100 Massachusetts lawyers and is by invitation only. Charles Le Ray joins his partners Daniel Dain and Kate Carter as members of the Abstract Club.
Mr. Le Ray represents developers and owners of commercial real estate with complex land use, permitting, regulatory compliance, and environmental projects. His expertise is deepest in zoning, wetlands, MEPA, and site remediation. He also represents clients in administrative law and land use litigation matters and has experience negotiating project agreements and settlement agreements with project municipalities, project neighbors and opponents, and regulators.

On March 29, 2023, Michael McDermott joined Foley Hoag partner, Jennifer Audeh, and representatives from the City of Boston, including Chief of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion Segun Idowu, to brief City officials, small business owners, and entrepreneurs on resources and best practices responsive to the 2023 regional banking instability. On March 27, we heard from Judge Diane Rubin and Judge Jennifer Roberts, both Associate Justices of the Land Court, as they spoke on a panel in our conference room for the Women’s Bar Association of Massachusetts about their paths to the bench and their perspectives on how to achieve success as female attorneys turned judges.
