Kathryn K. (Kathy) Winters
Kathryn (Kathy) Winters represents clients in a wide range of commercial real estate matters, including zoning and permitting, leasing, acquisitions, dispositions, and financing. Her zoning and permitting practice is focused on the approval of residential and mixed-use developments. She also represents businesses and single-family homeowners in MetroWest in local permitting and zoning matters, as well as in the negotiation of easements and other property-related agreements.
Kathy represents clients in all aspects of the acquisition and disposition of commercial properties, and in her leasing practice she advises both commercial landlords and tenants.
In addition, Kathy represents closely held businesses in a variety of transactional matters, including the purchase and sale of businesses and the formation of joint ventures and partnerships.
Kathy began her legal career at Fried Frank in Washington, DC, where she worked in the firm’s corporate tax practice focusing on mergers and acquisitions. She first encountered land use matters while serving in local government as President of the Waban Area Council. She later shifted her practice to land use and commercial real estate, joining Schlesinger and Buchbinder, LLP in Newton prior to joining Dain Torpy.
Representative Experience
- Represented developer in obtaining special permit approval for a mixed-use development in Newton comprised of 750 residential units and 20,000 square feet of commercial space.
- Represented developer in obtaining approval for a 184-unit Ch. 40B development in Newton.
- Represented developer in connection with amendments to special permit for mixed-use development in Newton on 22 acres comprised of 800 residential units and 96,000 square feet of commercial space.
- Represented real estate investment firm in permitting of 126,000 square feet of life sciences space.
- Represented closely held corporation in sale of retail furniture business across 7 locations in the Boston area.
- Represent closely held corporation in connection with multiple acquisitions of wholesale businesses and associated commercial property.
- Represented non-profit organization in acquisition and tax-exempt bond financing of $13 million expansion property.
- Represented local housing authority in connection with acquisition and financing of portfolio of 37 affordable housing units across 13 properties.
