Women’s Initiative at Dain Torpy: Kim Khuu Dooley
What drew you to focus your practice on commercial real estate law?
I was energized by the concept of helping people find and keep spaces in which they live and work. Once I started doing leasing law, I found that I love the challenge of drafting and fitting concepts together so they work in harmony. I like the satisfaction of solving puzzles and leases are like puzzles to me. When drafted correctly, the concepts should fit together like pieces of a puzzle.
How do you build strong relationships with your colleagues and clients?
Authenticity is number one. People know what they are getting when we interact. Be a reliable resource and colleague. You can be a strong advocate while also being polite and maintaining your composure. My father’s advice: Be the smartest in the room, not the loudest.
Are there any particular causes or issues within or outside of the legal profession that you are passionate about or actively involved in?
I am passionate about women’s sports and when I am not at work or home, I can usually be found at a sporting event or supporting the mission of equity in sports in some way.
What is your favorite meal to cook?
I like to make Chicken Parmesan – with thin, pounded chicken. I recently won the Chicken Parm “family bake-off” against some pretty tough competition.
